Welcome to Stonehearth Custom Homes latest and greatest Minnesota GreenStar Certified project. Right from the start this project has been completed with great attention to recycling and re-using, energy savings and sparing the environment. After selecting this south facing, sundrenched site the builder worked to relocate the existing 1953 built house to a site where it could be re-used rather than simply tearing it down and contributing to the landfills. They also decided to re-use the existing foundation and potentially sacrifice some square footage for the sake of the Green movement. The result is this magnificent, not so big, but spectacular home with the highest of standards for energy efficiency, water savings, and attention to indoor and outdoor air quality. Walls have been painted with zero VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints, the flooring is bamboo which is a rapidly renewing Hardwood species, the bathroom tile and even the carpet and padding have recycled content, and all countertop surfaces are cut from remnants. The home is third party verified as a 5 star EnergyStar rating, the highest possible rating. Some of the contributing factors include the EnergyStar lighting package, all the appliances are EnergyStar rated and the heating, cooling and water heating systems units are all very high efficiency units. The faucets and showerheads are low flow units that use less water but don’t effect your enjoyment, the toilets are all dual flush and even rain water will be collected from the roof into a barrel and reused for outdoor landscape water. There is a passive radon mitigation system in place, a fan creating constant negative pressure in the massive three car garage to keep the indoor air clean of pollutants and even preparations for adding solar panels if you want to reduce your fuel usage further!
